Dear Friend,
During this pandemic, I know it is difficult to pay attention on what happens outside of the US.
However, the people in Hong Kong desperately needs your help.
They are struggling to maintain their freedom.

On June 30 at 11:55 p.m. Beijing formally announced the National Security Law as applied to Hong Kong.

Five minutes later, on July 1, the 23rd anniversary of the Hong Kong authority transfer from the United Kingdom to China, the law became effective.
               The National Security Law effectively:
Ends the One Country Two Systems for Hong Kong
Ends Hong Kong's autonomy - a security agency is being installed in Hong Kong to report directly to Beijing.
Ends Hong Kong rule of law - Beijing's law takes precedence over Hong Kong law.
On that same day, the US House of Representatives passed the Hong Kong Autonomy Bill, which the US Senate had passed a few days earlier.
"This bill imposes sanctions on foreign individuals and entities that materially contribute to China's failure to preserve Hong Kong's autonomy. Hong Kong is part of China but has a largely separate legal and economic system with protections for civil rights such as freedom of speech. This arrangement is enshrined in (1) the Joint Declaration, a 1984 treaty pertaining to the United Kingdom's transfer of Hong Kong's sovereignty to China; and (2) the Basic Law, Hong Kong's constitutional document."
