On February 24, Dr. Yingchun Zeng and Yan Zhen published an article on The Lancet, a medical journal, requesting international medical assistance in fighting against COVID-19. Late today, the article was retracted. https://www.thelancet.com/journals/langlo/article/PIIS2214-109X(20)30065-6/fulltext In the article, they indicated that they went to Wuhan on January 24, 2020 to support the nursing staff in the isolation ward of the hospital there. They described that the conditions are "difficult and extreme" with severe shortage of medical items. They indicated that 1716 Chinese staff have been infected and that 9 died. They also pointed to the physical and psychological exhaustion the staff are facing. Dr. Yingchun Zeng is with the Department of Nursing at the Third Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical Hospital in Guangzhou, China. Yan Zhen is with the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine at Sun Yet-sen Memorial Hospital at Sun Yet-sen University in Guangzhou, China. Dr. Yingchun Zeng has published 64 scholarly research articles from cancer-related cognitive impairment to a review of work related stress of Chinese nurses. It is quite questionable that such highly professional medical women would publish an article for help then retract it two days later.
