Human Rights Lawyer Wang Yu, held on suspicion of inciting subversion after one of her last cases involving sexual assault of six underage girls and their school principal who took them to a hotel. Wang Yu's son was picked up in Thailand and returned to China . She was released on bail after she appeared on state television in August this year renouncing her legal work and blaming "foreign" forces on discrediting the Chinese government.

Gui Minhai was one of five booksellers who were kidnapped last year and appeared early this year on China's state television "confessing" to their "crime." In June of this year, Lam Wing Kee, one of the booksellers, was allowed to return to Hong Kong to retrieve a hard drive to bring back to China. Instead Lam went public in Hong Kong and exposed the fact that his confession was coerced and scripted by his captors.

Zhang Kai, a Christian and a human rights lawyer was held in police custody in August last year after he legally defended churches against the forced demolition of crosses. He was charged with "endangering state security" and "gathering a crowd to disturb public order" in February this year after his "confession" on state television. in March this year, he was released on bail.
