Statement by Hong Kong Forum, Los Angeles
Three days after the outburst of hundreds of thousands
peaceful protest in Hong Kong, on this National Day of the
People's Republic of China, Hong Kong Government was
shameful to host a cocktail celebration party rather than
initiating a dialogue with the protesters.
Hong Kong Forum Los Angeles (HKFLA) urges the
Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government to:
1. Withdraw
immediately security forces confronting the peaceful
protesters.
2. Host a
direct dialogue with the protesters as soon as possible.
3. Suspend
the decision made by National People's Congress Standing
Committee on August 31, 2014, in which Beijing’s insistence
that universal suffrage for the 2017 election of the next
chief executive must be tightly controlled, with a committee
stacked with pro-Beijing sympathizers picking a handful of
candidates.
4. Re-open
the electoral reform of the 2017 Chief Executive election by
including the necessary Civil Nomination and complete
substitution of Functional Constituency in Legislative
Council by direct election.
In its 65 years of existence, PRC has repeatedly
failed to keep its promise to bring democracy to mainland
China, and now its despicable record continues in Hong
Kong. All three Chief Executives since the handover in 1997
have significant executive shortcomings, and their failure
accumulated in the fall of 2014 that led to hundreds of
thousands of common Hong Kong people to take to the street.
To support the ongoing fight, HKFLA will be
staging a rally at Grand Park, downtown Los Angeles on
Tuesday, October 1, 2014 at 8:30 PM (waiting by the Metro
station on N. Hill St.). We will wear black or yellow to
signify our sFupport. This is in alliance with other
organizations in over 60 cities on four continents. We hope
our global efforts can bring worldwide attention to the
situation in Hong Kong as well as supporting Hong Kong
people in fighting for their future.
